Kristina Björnsdotter, by Wikipedia

Kristina Björnsdotter , born in the 1120s , died about 1170 , was a Swedish queen 1156–1160, who was married to King Erik the Holy .

Biography

Kristina was the daughter of Prince Björn Haraldsson Järnsida of Denmark and Princess Katarina Ingesdotter of Sweden. She married Erik the Saints and had with him she had the children Knut , who became Swedish King 1167 and Margareta , who became Queen of Norway.

Kristina is mentioned in the Knytlinga saga from the middle of the 13th century and a genealogy of Abbot Vilhelm, dead in 1203. In Swedish sources from the 1300s, there is probably the incorrect information that she was the daughter of Inge the younger.

Kristina is best known for her conflict over land ownership with Varnhem's monastery , for which the Pope wanted to ban her. Queen Kristina claimed Varnhem as hereditary, after Mrs. Sigrid , who donated the land on which Varnhem monastery was founded. Kristina must have harassed the monks to the extent that the monks chose to move to Denmark and in 1158 created Vitskøl monastery.

Kristina is supposed to have moved with her son at the murder of her husband, probably to Denmark.
